The Family Business Cassis Monna & Filles Launches into the Distillation of Spirits!

The history of the family business Cassis Monna & Filles began long before its founding in 1992 by Bernard Monna on the Island of Orleans, Quebec. It began in 1872 in the Hérault region of southern France, when Louis Monna founded a wine and spirits company. In the early 1970s, the Monna family moved to the Island of Orleans where they began growing black currants. In the Monna family, the liqueur making profession and its traditions are taught from generation to generation. Strengthened by his apprenticeship and driven by an ancestral passion, Bernard Monna founded his own company in 1992. He became the first producer of wine and crème de cassis (black currant liquor) in Quebec. Since then, the family business has been using a wide variety of black currants to produce spirits and related products. More than 60,000 bottles of fine spirits are produced annually at the liqueur factory, which covers more than 22 hectares. For several years, the house has enjoyed an undeniable reputation thanks, among other things, to the crème de cassis, its flagship product, which has won several awards in international competitions. Today, the house is managed by Bernard’s daughters, Catherine and Anne, who are taking over the business in a creative and visionary way by introducing the family business to agritourism. Cassis Monna & Filles now operates a restaurant, a cocktail bar, an artisanal dairy bar, a boutique and an economuseum. Recently, the two Monna sisters have expanded their product offering by launching a black currant-based artisanal vodka, which has already won a gold medal at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirit Competition.
