Rathna Cinnamon, a family-owned company, is Sri Lanka’s largest producer and exporter of organic Ceylon cinnamon and spices!

Among the varieties of cinnamon, the one produced in Sri Lanka from the bark of the Ceylon cinnamon tree is undoubtedly the favorite of gourmets. Rathna Cinnamon, a Sri Lankan family business, is the country’s largest producer and exporter of organic Ceylon cinnamon and spices. Founded in 1985 by Piyatissa Runage in the small village of Kamburupitiya, the company had modest beginnings before becoming a giant in its industry, notably thanks to the diversification of its offer and its export activities. Indeed, in 1998, the company started to sell its products to Mexico, one of the largest consumers of cinnamon in the world. Today, Rathna Cinnamon exports its products to over 50 countries. Although Ceylon cinnamon is the company’s flagship product, it also produces and exports several other spices such as black and white pepper, nutmeg and cloves. To guarantee the preservation of the ancestral qualities of Ceylon spices, the family business takes care to combine modern technology and traditional methods. The quality of its products as well as its commitment to sustainable development and eco-responsible practices allowed it to be distinguished at the Presidential Export Awards in 2014 and 2015. Today, led by Ravindy Runage, the founder’s son, Rathna Cinnamon has three processing centers occupying over 75,000 square feet. Here, the family-owned company employs approximately 9,000 registered farmers and peelers who work to produce the year-round spices grown on its 300 acres of certified organic land.
