The family-owned dairy company Saputo has just bought Dairy Crest Group in the UK!

The story of the Saputo dairy company dates back to the early 1950s, when the Saputo family decided to leave their native Sicily to settle in Montréal. The company was born in 1954, while Lino Saputo suggested to his father, the master cheesemaker Guiseppe, to found the family business. Specializing in the processing of dairy products of all kinds, it is today the largest cheese manufacturer and processor of plain milk and cream in Canada with 15,000 employees, 59 plants and products sold in 40 countries. Now led by Lino A. Saputo Jr., son of founding member Lino Saputo Sr., the company is not only present in Canada, but also in the United States, Argentina, Australia – where it is also the largest milk processor – and in Europe. In fact, Saputo recently acquired Dairy Crest Group, a UK dairy company with 1100 employees at seven sites in the United Kingdom.
