Viandes Lafrance, one of the key players in the Quebec agri-food industry, is a great example of a successful business transfer from one family to another!

Founded in 1929 in Saint-Séverin in the Mauricie region and moved to Shawinigan in 2008, the family-owned Viandes Lafrance (formerly Abattoir Louis Lafrance & Fils) is a slaughterhouse specializing in the production of halal and non-halal meat from local breeders and animals fed according to the strict standards set by the province. The company serves Quebec butcher shops and food stores with sections dedicated to regional products. The Lafrance family remained at the head of the company until 2012. Indeed, the brothers André and François Lafrance of the 3rd generation, without family succession, passed the torch and sold the company to Indira Mouri, today CEO, and her husband Guillaume Pham, general manager. This cosmopolitan engineering couple with successful international careers decided to settle down and take the plunge by becoming owners of a small business in the heart of the Quebec countryside! With the help of the previous owners, the new business family has been working to strengthen the brand and develop eco-friendly practices and products that respect local gastronomic traditions. Proud of their new community, the Mouri-Pham couple seeks to make the Mauricie region shine and to actively contribute to its economic and social development. In their processing plant, they promote inclusive management: 12 nationalities are represented among the 50 or so employees, in addition to having increased the representation of women by 20% in this predominantly male field. Today, Viandes Lafrance is the largest sheep, cattle and goat slaughterhouse in Quebec.
