The Berthierville-based family business EBI is expanding its waste management activities to South America!

Founded in Berthierville by Rolland Sylvestre 60 years ago, the family business EBI is a leader in waste management in the municipal, industrial, commercial and institutional sectors. As a pioneer in its field, the company has been able to develop innovative waste management and recycling solutions with the aim of reducing their effects on the environment. EBI thus produces natural gas and electricity using biogas. The company is experiencing strong growth not only in Quebec, but also in South America. Already present in Costa Rica since 1997, EBI penetrates the Chilean market with the acquisition of Cosemar, the third largest waste management company in the country with 1,900 employees. The family business, of which Fonds de solidarité FTQ has been a minority shareholder since 2018, now has 3,000 employees, the majority of whom work in South America. Today, the four sons of Rolland and Marie-Ange Sylvestre, cofounders, ensure the management of EBI. Pierre Sylvestre is the president and CEO while his brothers René, Michel and Bernard Sylvestre respectively occupy the positions of vice president and executive director, executive director of EBI Latam (Latin-American) and purchasing manager for machinery. In recent years, several members of the third generation have also collaborated in the development of the family business.
