Groupe Bellemare, a family business specializing in transportation and construction services, was at the center of a major operation for the REM in Montreal!

Groupe Bellemare, a jewel in the crown of Quebec’s economy located in the Mauricie region, has strong entrepreneurial family roots dating back to 1935 when Nérée Bellemare founded a company specializing in building transportation. Thomas Bellemare became involved in his father’s business in the 1950s and, with the help of his wife Florence, incorporated the company, thereby breathing new life into the family business. From that moment on, the company has never stopped growing thanks to multiple acquisitions and the diversity of expertise developed over the years. Since 1997, a third generation, represented by Jean-Luc, Tom and Serge Bellemare, has also officially taken over. Under their leadership, the company grew from annual sales of $15 million to over $100 million in the 2010s. Today, this dynamic group offers products and services in fields as varied as concrete, abrasives and minerals, demolition, non-standard transportation or recycling and landfill. The 500-employee group, which has no shortage of projects, was recently at the center of a spectacular large-scale operation in Montreal: the transportation of 87-meter, 120-ton steel pieces for the construction of the REM, the city’s new electrified public transport network. Using self-propelled and remote-controlled trailers, the Bellemare Transport, Engineering & Logistics team, which operates throughout North America, had to ensure that the pieces remained level throughout the several-kilometre distance, which represented a colossal challenge. Groupe Bellemare is the only Quebec company that has the equipment and knowledge to ensure the success of such an operation. Congratulations to the entire team!
